In a country where women have no rights, two
women fight for freedom. Sahar Al-Hijazi refuses to allow men to decide
her destiny. Her best friend, Dawn Parnell, made the mistake of changing
her religion and marrying a Saudi. He misled her into thinking he was a
progressive thinker. Trapped in Riyadh, these women desperately seek a
way to escape. Based in Pasadena, California, Crawford Enterprises with
strong business ties to the Al-Hijazi family couldn’t care less about
the plight of these women or any Saudi woman for that matter. Their main
goal is to accumulate wealth and increase their earnings per share.
With mystery and romance lingering in the air, the lives of Jason, Sahar
and Dawn intertwine, giving readers a glimpse of life in the in the
kingdom, from the crushing of the female spirit to the torture of
foreigners from third world countries.
It took her three years to write The Dawn of Saudi. When she started this project, everyone had their doubts but she pushed forward with a passion in order to bring attention to the way women and foreigners are treated in the Saudi Arabia. There are many Saudi activists in the kingdom who are afraid to speak up under their real name. They write blogs as a way to release their frustration with their government and the religious hardliners. The modernists and the young generation want change but are often threatened and jailed.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading it,I couldn't put it down. It was such a great book, had some many twists and turns and made me want to see what happens next! As we just don't understand how easy that women have it here in America. In Saudi, they can't even go to the mall without being in the company of a male that is related to them! There are also arranged marriages that are chosen by your family. They have no say in this matter~or any matter in their lives as it is the males that make all the decisions for them. I would recommend this to all~as this was a great read for young and old alike!
