Taste Of Home and Frito Lay Giveaway 8/30

Frito Lay recently asked me about a recipe that reminds me of home. I have been thinking of all the dishes and desserts that my parents used to make as both of them were good cooks. But the one that sticks out the most in my mind is my Mom's Banana Cream Pie.Everyone in the family requested it when we went anywhere~so I watched her many times. She just made the best crust that melted in your mouth.. I have enclosed the recipe and hope that you will also enjoy making it~but be warned this is very addicting!

Speaking of something that is addicting~Lays is one of my all time favorite snacks! Now there are a new line of Chips~

These chips were inspired by popular American regional cuisine and include~

Northeastern U.S.~Lay’s Honey Mustard
Midwestern U.S.~Lay’s Creamy Garden Ranch
Northwestern U.S. – Lay’s Balsamic Sweet Onion
Southwestern U.S. – Lay’s Chipotle Ranch
Southeastern U.S. – Lay’s Cajun Herb & Spice

All of the Lay’s Regional Flavored potato chips are made with all natural ingredients, and are cooked in healthier oils so they contain 0 grams of trans fats per serving.
There’s also less sodium in them than you might think~a 1-oz serving of our Lay’s Regional Flavored potato chips contains less salt than a plain bagel!
Not only do they taste good they are good for you.
The two Lay’s Regional Flavors  that I would most like to try is the Creamy Garden Ranch and Balsamic Onion.
You can check out all the new flavors here.

Here is the recipe~

~Mom's Banana Cream Pie~

Crust
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour plus flour for rolling
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup solid vegetable shortening, chilled
1/4 cup butter, chilled
4 to 8 tablespoons ice water

Combine the flour and salt in a food processor fitted with the metal blade. Add the shortening and butter and process using on/off pulses until the mixture is the size of peas. Add the water 1 tablespoon at a time, processing until the dough just begins to come together.

Form the dough into a ball. Flatten into a disk. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator. Let soften slightly if necessary.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a 10-inch round, about 1/8-inch thick.

Transfer the dough to a 9-inch pie dish. Crimp the edges decoratively.  Bake until the edges of the crust are lightly browned, about 10 to 15 minutes. Transfer to a rack. Let cool completely.

Pie Filling~

2/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. cornstarch
3 c. milk
4 egg yolks
2 T. butter or margarine
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
2-3 bananas
*Fresh Whipped Cream Topping*
3/4 cup chilled whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chilled glass or metal mixing bowl

Preparation:

Combine sugar and cornstarch in a heavy saucepan. Stir in milk until blended. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat. In a small bowl, beat the egg yolks. Add a few spoonfuls of the hot pudding mixture to the eggs. Stir together quickly and return the egg mixture to the hot pudding, stirring quickly to blend all together. Return to the heat and again bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Let stand 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.Slice bananas and scatter in pie shell, pour warm mixture over bananas.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until cooled.

When pie is completely cooled top with fresh whipped cream and garnish with sliced almonds.

For Whipped Topping: Pour cream in to a glass or metal bowl and beat until soft peaks form gradually add powder sugar until all has been blended and then add vanilla slowly until it has also been blended . Mixture should have stiff peaks. The whipped cream may be put into a pastry bag.

PAAS Easter Egg Dye and Heinz Vinegar Review

Easter is early this year,so we decided to dye eggs last night. You know that the Easter Bunny has got to get the baskets ready so we need to help with the coloring.{So~I am told by my grandson} We were super excited as this year we were sent some new PAAS Easter egg dyes to try.       This year, PAAS has seven new egg decorating kits, including Volcano Eggsplosion, a kit that uses melted crayon shavings to provide instant color and Touch of Velvet, a kit that uses double stick adhesives and flocking powder to create fun, fuzzy shapes on your Easter creations! For the brightest, most vivid colors, add one tablet and three tablespoons of Heinz Distilled White Vinegar to a PAAS Color Cup or a one-cup container. Once the tablet has dissolved, add ½ cup water and stir gently.      According to the PAAS  more than 180 million eggs a year are dyed with PAAS dye!   Also, to help keep hard-cooked eggs from cracking, add two tablespoons of Heinz Distilled W

As there is nothing worse then dry~cracked lips. I have been using Carmex for as long as I can remember. I was so excited to see a package arrive from them! Carmex has a new flavor~Pomegranate. This new scent is awesome~I love it! Not too sweet and it makes my lips feel so smooth just like the others! Along with the Pomegranate flavor, they also sent me all their other flavors that I already use~lime twist~ cherry~original~vanilla and strawberry.
